CivicLens

Terms of Service

Last updated: 26 July 2026

CivicLens is an independent, personal project built and maintained by one person, provided free of charge for now. By using the site you agree to these terms.

The service

CivicLens lets you search a postcode or address in England and see civic data — crime, schools, air quality, transport, planning constraints, and property ownership — pulled together from public and third-party data sources. You can run one search without an account; a free account is required after that.

No warranty on data accuracy

Data shown is sourced from third-party and public providers (including police.uk, DEFRA, Ofsted/DfE, Companies House, HM Land Registry, and OpenStreetMap contributors) and cached for performance. It may be incomplete, out of date, or occasionally incorrect. CivicLens is a research and exploration tool, not a substitute for official searches — don't rely on it for legal, financial, or safety decisions (for example, a property purchase) without verifying against the original source.

Availability

This is a hobby project run without a support team or uptime guarantee. Features, including currently free ones, may change, be paused, or be withdrawn at any time.

Acceptable use

Use of the service is also governed by our Acceptable Use Policy.

Accounts

You're responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. We may suspend or terminate accounts that breach these terms or the acceptable use policy.

Liability

The service is provided "as is" with no warranties, express or implied. To the extent permitted by law, CivicLens and its operator are not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, the service or the data it displays.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.

Changes

Terms may be updated as the project evolves; the date at the top of this page reflects the most recent change.
