CivicLens

Acceptable Use Policy

Last updated: 26 July 2026

CivicLens runs on modest infrastructure and relies on third-party data providers that have their own usage limits. To keep it working for everyone, please don't:

  • Scrape, crawl, or send automated bulk queries against the site or its APIs.
  • Attempt to bypass rate limits, the free-search gate, or account requirements.
  • Extract or republish the underlying datasets at scale to build a competing product or service.
  • Use the property ownership, address, or location data to stalk, harass, or intimidate any individual.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts, infrastructure, or non-public parts of the service.
  • Use the service for any unlawful purpose.

Fair use

Normal, human, interactive use of the search and data views is always fine — this policy targets automated or bulk misuse, not regular browsing.

HM Land Registry data (company ownership)

The company property ownership panel is built on HM Land Registry's CCOD dataset, which is provided to CivicLens under a licence with its own conditions. When using this part of the site, you must not:

  • Use it as the basis to contact a registered proprietor to offer them goods, services, or any other direct marketing.
  • Present it as more current than it is — the underlying extract is refreshed periodically, not in real time.
  • Republish or resell the underlying ownership data itself (as opposed to using CivicLens normally).
  • Use any Land Registry title number in a way that could disrupt HM Land Registry's own systems.

Enforcement

We may suspend or terminate access for accounts or IP addresses that breach this policy.
